Learn Legionella Ready

A whole school put into Legionella Ready, film by film.

Eleven short films, 46 minutes in all, show Oakfield School being set up in the app: its floors and rooms, its plant, and every outlet connected. By the end you can do the same for your own building.

Oakfield School is invented. We made it up so that nothing in the films would have to be blurred or left out. Every room, pipe and tap is there to be seen.

Before you begin and what you’ll learn

All rooms and both outside taps now have supply connections. The final film checks the saved result.

  • Review each saved room and its upstream equipment.
  • Check that all 74 outlets are included.
  • See the completed supply record for the fictional school.

In Film Eight, we completed the second floor and both outside taps, then saved the whole schematic. The connections are now recorded throughout our example school. This final film checks that saved result, room by room, from the lower ground floor to the outside taps.

Reload the saved schematic before reviewing it. This checks the stored school record. We will open every room and inspect the connections that were saved.

Begin with the tank room on the lower ground floor. The incoming supply, cold-water tank and booster set are all present. Follow their connections towards the shared school supplies.

The boiler room contains the cylinder, hot-water return and circulation pump. These plant records remain connected to the wider system.

In the cleaner store, our first completed room, the sink still has its separate cold and hot supplies.

On the ground floor, the kitchen contains two preparation sinks, a handwash basin and the pre-rinse spray. All four have their recorded supplies.

The staff room has one sink. Both supply connections are present after reloading.

The first aid room also has one outlet. Its basin is connected to the shared cold and hot supplies.

The accessible washroom shows two different requirements: cold and hot water for the basin, and cold water alone for the toilet.

The girls washroom has three basins and three toilets. Check that the cold-only toilet connections remain distinct from the basin supplies.

The boys washroom repeats that arrangement. The connections belong to these existing room records, so copying the pattern has not created another set of equipment.

The first changing room contains three showers and two basins. Each outlet has both supplies.

The next changing room has four showers and two basins. The additional shower is included, alongside the five outlets that matched the earlier room.

On the first floor, classroom one hundred and one has its washbasin and both supplies.

Classroom one hundred and two has the same pattern, attached to its own existing basin.

Classroom one hundred and three also retains both connections.

Classroom one hundred and four completes this set of four classrooms.

The first science laboratory has three sinks. Each has a cold-only supply from the school group. There is no hot-water connection in this example.

The second laboratory has the same three-sink arrangement. All three sinks have their own connections.

The science preparation room contains one utility sink, with both supplies recorded.

The first-floor staff room has a single sink. Its cold and hot connections are present.

The first-floor girls washroom contains three basins and three toilets. The toilets receive cold water alone.

The boys washroom has the same six-outlet arrangement, with separate connections for each outlet.

On the second floor, the art room contains two sinks. Both have cold-water supplies, following the same pattern as the laboratories.

The art preparation room has one utility sink. Its two supply connections are present.

The second-floor staff room also has one sink with both supplies.

The girls washroom has three basins and three toilets, with the expected supply pattern.

The boys washroom completes the indoor rooms. Its basins have two supplies; its toilets have cold water alone.

Finally, check outside. The garden tap and service-yard tap each connect directly to the incoming supply. They are outside the indoor room group.

Open the equipment register to complete the check. All eighty existing assets are included: seventy-four outlets and six plant records. The example routes remain unconfirmed.

Oakfield now has supply connections for all seventy-four outlets, alongside the six plant records. Every room we started is included, and both outside taps are connected. We have saved the result and reviewed the rooms. The routes remain unconfirmed because this is our fictional teaching building. We’ve completed the supply-recording work for the example. Next, we can move on to who is responsible and how the day-to-day work is recorded.

The school

We drew the school so the films can be followed.

Oakfield has a front, five floors and a code on every room. Each room in the films is on a plan, so you can see where you are before you press play.

The same for your building

Your rooms, your equipment, your procedures, on film.

The Oakfield films were made by recording the app as the school was built. The same can be done for a real building once it is in Legionella Ready, so your staff learn on the rooms they actually walk through.

What you give us

  • Your floor plans, or a walk round the building
  • The name of every room with water in it
  • The procedures your staff are expected to follow

What you get

  • Your building set up in Legionella Ready, floor by floor
  • Films of it being built, chapter by chapter, that your staff can return to
  • A building record that already exists on the day you start
